Munich Minister’s Political Future Hangs in the Balance: Bavarian Prime Minister to Decide After Anti-Semitic Leaflet Scandal

Munich: In the affair of an anti-Semitic leaflet, the decision on the political future of Economics Minister Aiwanger is now up to Bavaria’s Prime Minister Söder. Aiwanger answered the list of questions requested by Söder in writing – the State Chancellery confirmed this to the BR. However, nothing is known about the content. As the BR learned from government circles, Söder wants to examine the answers – so literally – “in peace”. The prime minister wanted to make it dependent on the result whether or not he would dismiss Aiwanger a good month before the Bavarian state elections. Both politicians want to attend longer planned public appointments today. SPD state leader von Brunn had offered the CSU yesterday to tolerate a minority government without the free voters until the state elections. The affair is a heavy burden for Bavaria and thus for the state government, he said.
