From now on everyone can be vaccinated with Novavax. This was announced by the Bavarian Ministry of Health on Wednesday. Previously, the vaccine was only intended for nursing staff – now for everyone over the age of 18.
There is no rush to protein vaccines
The reason: the demand for Novavax has been very low so far. Across Bavaria, just under 2,300 people were vaccinated with the protein vaccine within a week. Therefore, prioritization is no longer necessary, according to the Bavarian Ministry of Health.
The health authorities in the region confirm the low level of interest: Since Friday, those who want to be vaccinated have been able to be vaccinated with Novavax in the Würzburg vaccination centers, among other places – so far around 30 vaccinations have been carried out here. This picture is also emerging in the districts of Main-Spessart and Kitzingen – there is also very little demand for the vaccine here.
The protein vaccine is currently only being vaccinated in the vaccination centers – but Novavax should soon also arrive in medical practices, according to the Bavarian Ministry of Health.
STIKO recommendation
The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends two vaccinations with Novavax at least three weeks apart. The protein vaccine is not yet recommended for booster vaccinations.
