Munich – fell by the wayside – Munich

Anyone cruising along a motorway is one thing above all else: fast and loud. Up until now, it was the case that you were allowed to drive quickly at 80 km / h with impunity even on the inner-city motorway routes, which annoyed the residents along these racetracks during the day and deprived them of sleep at night. Again and again, the district committees of Hadern, Laim and Sendling-Westpark advocate that Tempo 60 be introduced on these motorway routes.

Now the time has finally come – but only partially: In order to reduce the noise pollution of residents on the motorway towards Lindau (A 96) between the end of the motorway in Sendling and the Blumenau junction, the maximum speed in this section has been generally increased to 60 kilometers per hour in both directions fixed. “We have to weight the issue of noise protection more heavily because people are becoming more and more sensitive to noise,” said Bavaria’s Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) in mid-March, meaning she had her photographed in Neubiberg when the first signs for the speed limit were put up. As before, however, the whole of Blumenau continues to suffer from the noise that traffic makes when it is traveling at 80 km / h. Josef Seebacher, press spokesman for the southern Bavarian branch of the Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, referred to difficult legal considerations.

After lengthy investigations, the experts from the Free State and the federal government (which is responsible for the motorways) came to the conclusion that the noise level can only be reduced by speed restrictions. For the west of the city, the decision was made that reducing the maximum speed to Temo 60 was “the only proportionate measure to reduce noise pollution for residents between the end of the motorway in Munich-Sendling and the Munich-Blumenau junction,” according to the authorities of the Free State. Such a decision, so the conclusion of two ministries, requires a “careful and legally secure weighing.” After all, so the reasoning, such a decision could have far-reaching effects on all highways in metropolitan areas.

This is not good news for the residents of Blumenau west of Silberdistelstrasse. A reduction to 60 km / h would have been a great relief for you. Now everything stays the same for them, although they are just as affected by the noise of the motorway as the residential areas along the rest of the inner-city route, from Sendling to the Blumenau junction. In principle, there are two ways of dictating a slower speed on the motorway, either for reasons of traffic safety or for noise protection. On the A 96 on its way through the city, people had previously set a speed limit of 60 from the Laim junction in the direction of Munich, invoking traffic safety. Now the authorities have brought noise protection into play and set a speed limit of 60 for the route between the junctions in Blumenau and Sendling.

This does not go far enough for the Hadern district committee. According to the latest decision of the city district committee, they still insist that the Blumenau be protected by a noise barrier or at least a speed limit. The BA chairman Renate Unterberg (Greens) said on request: “In particular, we still want to know where the legal basis lies for treating the section from Sendling to Blumenau differently than that from Blumenau to the west, although both areas are inner-city are, and although the Blumenau is very densely populated and relatively high-rise. The federal government is only legally obliged to do this if a motorway is expanded – which is not the case there. So there is only hope that the noise-reducing road surface will be removed This is planned for the next two to three years on the road towards the city center.
