Commemoration in Passau and other places in Bavaria
One year after the Hamas attack, the victims and hostages are also being remembered in other places in Bavaria. The regional branches of the German-Israeli Society (DIG) have organized commemorative events in some Bavarian cities. A political scientist and a 13-year-old Israeli girl will speak in Passau. At the beginning of the event, DIG Passau wants to fly helium balloons with pictures of the victims and hostages.
A silent march will take place in Nuremberg at 5:45 p.m. According to the city, in Augsburg the German-Israeli Society (DIG) has prepared a weekly program under the motto “One Year October 7th”. Among other things, there will be a workshop for teachers. In Würzburg there is a demonstration in the city center. The German-Israeli Society (DIG) Regensburg-Upper Palatinate also commemorated the atrocities with a rally in front of the Regensburg synagogue.
DIG chairman Dennis Forster expressly emphasized that it was not about denying the suffering that was also happening to the Palestinians. According to Forster, they are also victims of Hamas and its deluded supporters in the West, who allow themselves to be exploited by terrorists for their destructive death cult.
In Aschaffenburg, the Haus Wolfsthalplatz support group, an association for the preservation of the city’s Jewish heritage, has called for a memorial rally. The chairman of the association writes in the call for the rally that people are concerned about the political developments in Germany and other European countries and the fact that populist-radical parties are being elected. This overall development ensures, among other things, that anti-Semitism is increasingly openly shown.
A vigil for the victims of the Hamas massacre is also taking place in Hof’s pedestrian zone. The aim of the commemoration is to set an example of solidarity with the people of Israel and against increasing anti-Semitism in Germany, says the newly founded German-Israeli Friends of Hof, which is organizing the vigil. It starts at 6 p.m. in front of St. Mary’s Church in the city center.
Rally against anti-Semitism and march for hostages
On Sunday afternoon, two rallies in Munich had already commemorated October 7th: at Odeonsplatz, at the invitation of Munich representatives of the “Run for their Lives” initiative, more than 8,000 people came together to demonstrate for the release of the 101 hostages who are still being held are in the power of Hamas and to send a signal against anti-Semitism.
The chairman of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, appealed to society and politics for “visible and sustainable” solidarity with the Jewish community. “We need to feel wanted and wanted here.” The Israeli ambassador, Ron Prosor, also appealed to German politicians. Israel “clearly wants more support.”
Prime Minister Söder stated that Bavaria would help ensure that “Israel can defend its right to exist and that anti-Semitism will decline here again.” The rally resulted in a march true to the motto of the organizers’ initiative “Run for their Lives” – running for the lives of the hostages.
