Munich City Council Delays Decision on Roger Waters Concert

The city council has adjourned the decision as to whether Roger Waters may perform in Munich. The lawyers of the Pink Floyd founder have already positioned themselves clearly.

Munich – May Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters perform in the Olympiahalle on May 21st? The question has not yet been resolved. The city council’s economic committee postponed a decision to the next general assembly on March 22nd on Tuesday.

Roger Waters concert in Munich: economics officer Baumgärtner suggested cancellation to the city council

At the request of the CSU and Free Voters, economics officer Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) had proposed that the concert be canceled because Waters had often made anti-Semitic statements in the past. On Monday, the Greens and SPD also criticized the fact that Waters would also appear with conspiracy ideological statements – for example in relation to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.

However, the majority of the town hall had requested that it first be checked whether a concert cancellation would have legal consequences, the government of Upper Bavaria is now commissioned with the process. In fact, Waters has already let it be known through a law firm that he insists on compliance with the contracts with Olympiapark GmbH.

Roger Waters concert in Munich: If cancellation is not possible, signs should be set

If a cancellation is not possible, the SPD and the Greens are calling for signs to be set on the day of the concert – for example with flags from Israel and Ukraine, lighting up the Olympic Tower or the distribution of information sheets. In addition, a legal opinion should clarify for the future how performances by artists who attract attention with anti-Semitism, conspiracy myths or a connection to the Reich citizen scene can be prevented.
