Munich becomes the new location of the European League of Football

The Bavarian state capital Munich will be the eighth German venue of the European League of Football (ELF) for the 2023 season. The series, which has existed since 2021, will thus grow to at least 16 teams from eight countries.

“This brings us full circle on the map of Germany. Munich is a city with a great football tradition and many enthusiastic fans,” said Managing Director Zeljko Karajica.

Further details on the new franchise, such as name and stadium, will follow “soon”. Munich is to be the last new German location for the time being. So far, Germany has been represented by Berlin Thunder, the Hamburg Sea Devils, Meister Frankfurt Galaxy, Rhein Fire, the Cologne Centurions, Stuttgart Surge and the Leipzig Kings.

“For us, this is an important signal both internally and externally,” Commissioner Patrick Esume said of the newcomer. Milan, Budapest and Zurich had previously given their commitment for 2023. In the coming years, the league is to be expanded to 24 teams if possible.
