Munich Airport Discovers Dangerous Drug Smuggling Operation

Munich – Dangerous drug smuggling stopped!

At Munich Airport, customs officials have now discovered 90 swallowing containers (so-called body packs) on a 36-year-old Colombian. He was on his way to Great Britain from Brazil.

During the customs check at the end of June, the man got caught up in contradictions regarding the information he provided about the purpose and duration of the trip. Officers then performed a drug wipe test, which showed cocaine.

Since cocaine was not found on the Colombian’s body or in his hand luggage, the man had to be x-rayed in the hospital. “The X-ray showed foreign bodies and thus confirmed the customs officer’s suspicion,” said Marie Müller, spokeswoman for the main customs office in Munich. In a hospital, under medical supervision, the smuggler gradually excreted the 90 body packs (condoms filled with cocaine).

An arrest warrant was issued against the man by the Landshut district court at the request of the Landshut public prosecutor’s office. The Munich Customs Investigation Office took over the further investigations.

Bodypacking is the ingestion of narcotics for the purpose of transport. The drugs are packed in saliva and gastric acid-resistant bags (e.g. condoms).

If just one of these containers bursts in the stomach, it means certain death in most cases.
