Mumford & Sons replaces Stromae on the opening day of Rock Werchter, the organization of the festival announced on Monday. The Belgian singer canceled his entire tour last month.
“We were so happy with Stromae as the Thursday headliner”, the organization of Rock Werchter said. “The news that he is due to health reasons Multitudetour had to end early, touched us deeply.”
The organization faced a difficult task. “The challenge was great; our programmers went all out to determine the best possible replacement.”
Mumford & Sons would start touring Europe from the beginning of July, but are bringing those plans forward because of Rock Werchter. “The concert on Thursday 29 June will be Mumford & Sons’ first European show in more than three years. We are grateful and especially very pleased that they are closing the first day of the festival.”
The Dutch festival Down The Rabbit Hole was also looking for a replacement for the Belgian singer. At the beginning of July, singer Burna Boy takes Stromae’s place on the main stage on Saturday night.
In addition to Mumford & Sons, Werchter has added Froukje and Berre to the line-up. The festival, which usually also attracts many Dutch people, takes place from June 29 to July 2 in the Festival Park in Werchter.
