A three-storey building has collapsed in the Indian city of Mumbai after heavy rain. Eleven people were killed and eight people were injured. Eight children are among the dead.
Rescuers are still searching for survivors under the rubble. The building crashed into another building. Large parts of Mumbai have been flooded by monsoon rains. 222 millimeters fell in twelve hours.
During the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, buildings in India are more likely to collapse. The rain affects the foundations of buildings with poor construction quality.
In 2019, 14 people were killed when a three-storey building collapsed in northern India’s Solan. That same year, a building collapsed in Mumbai of four floors in. Ten people were killed at the time.
