In the early afternoon there were two shootings at a university hospital and a nearby house in Rotterdam, Holland, and there are several victims, the police confirmed. Officers arrested the suspect, a 32-year-old man, who was wearing military clothing.
The first shooting occurred in a private apartment, the house was then set on fire. At that point the assailant would have headed towards the university hospital of the Erasmus University Medical Center, one of the largest and most prestigious scientific campuses in Europe, where he would have opened fire on the students of a class before giving the classroom on fire.
The reasons for the attack are unclear, police confirmed that the suspect was wearing “combat” clothing, is tall, has black hair and was carrying a backpack. According to the police, the man acted alone. “A 32-year-old Rotterdam resident has been arrested. He is suspected of being involved in two violent incidents. We exclude the possibility of a second man,” the police said.
“Due to ongoing incidents, we ask you not to come to Erasmus MC,” the campus management announced on its X (formerly Twitter) account.
