Multiple Flights Canceled in Italy Due to Ground Staff and Air Traffic Control Strike

Three flights from Sofia to Italy have been canceled so far today due to a strike by ground staff at Italian airports and air traffic control officers, BNR reported.

The strike started at 11 am and will continue until 7 pm. The protesters are demanding the signing of the collective labor agreement, which has not been renewed for the sixth year.

Airlines urged passengers to stay tuned.

The national company ITA has canceled more than 100 domestic and international flights, and for all other carriers, about 1,000 unfulfilled flights are looming today.

According to calculations by the consumer association Codacons, the number of passengers who will not take off from Italian airports alone is over 250,000.

An eight-hour protest was planned by the crews of the Vueling airline, and four hours by their colleagues from Malta Air – a company that operates Ryanair flights.

The dissatisfaction is due to unconstructive relations and unsatisfactory contracts with the pilots.
