A man wielding a steak knife killed four members of his extended family, including two childrenat a home in the New York borough of Queens before being shot by police, authorities said.
The New York Police Department said a girl called to report the incident in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens and said her “cousin was killing members of his family.”
The suspect, aged 38, stabbed two police officers who responded to the scenethe police told reporters. One of the policemen then shot him deadthey add.
The suspect was previously arrested for a domestic violence incident, police said. The two injured officers were taken to hospital and are expected to recover.
The four people stabbed to death include a 12-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, a 44-year-old woman and a man in his 30s, the police said. The eleven-year-old child was found in front of the house, and the other three were found in the bedrooms, the police added.
A fifth person, a 61-year-old woman, was also stabbed and is in hospital in critical conditionthe police said.
