Several explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Thursday morning, shortly after authorities issued a warning of possible missile strikes in the country.
The local and military administration of the city of Kiev said: “A missile attack targeting the capital, Kiev.”
Reuters also quoted officials in the capital as saying that air defenses had been activated in Kiev.
For its part, the Ukrainian Air Command stated that Russian Kinjal missiles were launched towards the Kiev region.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko asked residents to stay in bomb shelters.
Simultaneously, Russian media reported the closure of the airspace over Vnukovo Airport in the capital, Moscow, and the postponement of the departure and arrival of flights.
