Torrecárdenas University Hospital has registered a multiple organ donation thanks to which different organs have been sent for transplantation (heart, kidneys, liver, lung and corneas).
The managing director of the hospital center, Manuel Vida, has valued this donation and thanked the donor’s family “Their generosity that in a moment of pain like the one they are experiencing, they show an extraordinary solidarity.”
Manuel Vida has also thanked the work of Dr. Ana Calderón, of the Intensive Care Unit, and of the nurse Milagros Balaguer of the Torrecárdenas University Hospital “for coordinating all this device” in which, among others, doctors from the Almeria hospital participated.
For its part, the transplant coordinator of the Torrecárdenas University Hospital, Francisco Guerrero, has highlighted that “in cases like this and as we always explain, we do not have words of gratitude to the donor’s family who, overcoming immense pain, have been generous enough to accept organ donation. We cannot finish offering this information to society without expressing our admiration and gratitude to all these relatives who say yes to organ donation ”.
When transplant coordinators interview a grieving family to offer them the option of donating organs, they are provided with all the necessary information “to make them see that the donation is a good and supportive decision. That the memory of the donation will make the loss more bearable as weeks or months go by. There will always be one or more families who will remember their donor with the greatest gratitude that can be had towards a person who they feel as kind because at the cost of their relative’s own life, he facilitated their healing ”.
Dr. Guerrero has also stated that “We increasingly assist families who spontaneously offer organ and tissue donation when they are informed of the diagnosis of critical illnesses with an unfortunate prognosis. This growing complicity makes it very easy for us to bring donation closer to those patients on the transplant waiting list, who need urgent and effective solutions for their serious diseases in vital organs ”.
