A security perimeter had been erected by the SQ around the scene of the event.

A 28-year-old man, Michael Ryskie, appeared for the first time at the courthouse of Val-d’Or, Wednesday afternoon, in connection with this incident where a woman would have been struck by a vehicle, late Monday evening, then that she was walking on a sidewalk on 3rd Avenue, near the Subway restaurant.

Arrested Tuesday afternoon after having delivered himself to the Sûreté du Québec post in Val-d’Or, Ryskie faces charges of assault with a weapon (the vehicle being considered as a weapon), of assault causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and hit and run at the alleged victim.

The Val-d´Or individual was also charged with assault with a weapon against the man who was with the lady at the time of the incident. The suspect, who remains in detention for the time being, is scheduled to return to court next week to inquire into his release.

Remember that, according to information sent by the SQ, the police officers from the MRC Vallée-de-l’Or police station were called around midnight fifteen, in the wake of Monday to Tuesday, concerning this case where the vehicle driven by the accused would have deviated from his path to go and snap up an elderly woman in her thirties. Without wanting to specify the link between the two people, Nancy Fournier, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, said that they know each other.

Also according to the Sûreté du Québec, the lady was taken to hospital to treat serious injuries, but there is no fear for her life, while the driver of the vehicle fled after the collision, before reporting at the police station the next day.
