Multiple Cars Crash on Slippery Isiveien Due to Rain on Frozen Roads – Police Reports

It has rained on frozen roads on Monday night, which makes for very slippery driving conditions – especially on the small roads.

Just after 22.30, the police report that several cars have had problems on Isiveien, under the bridge where the E16 runs, and ended up in the guardrail.

– Three separate cases where three cars have driven in a car guard. No major injuries, but those involved are being checked by an ambulance, reports operations manager Bjørn Gunnar Nysæter.

He states that a litter truck is expected in the area at 11 p.m.

A tipster tells Budstikka that more people drive Isiveien on Monday evening due to a detour in the area.

According to Budstikka’s reporter at the scene, at 11.15 p.m. several cars are parked on the side of the road along Isiveien. None of them should have major material damage, but at least two of the cars have been abandoned.

At 11.30 p.m., operations manager Per-Ivar Iversen informs the police that the police have finished on the scene and that the road has reopened to traffic, after the police blocked Isiveien for a period until it was littered.

Also smooth in Lommedalen

It will also be very smooth in the Lommedalen and Bærums Verk areas.

– At Bærums Verk it is now -3 degrees and torrential rain – the roads are as shiny as glass! The main roads are mostly salted, but the minor roads in neighbourhoods/residential areas, which have a layer of snow and very little gravel, are now mirror-gloss, writes a tipster to Budstikka at 9pm on Monday.

Another warns of similar conditions in Lommedalen.

– Up from Lommedalen school, Elen Weea’s road and further up to Ole Olsen’s road, it is now crystal clear. How will it be driving tomorrow morning?, wonders another tipster.

The latter asks the municipality to come and sprinkle the municipal roads in the area. At 10 p.m., the spreader tractors are out working to improve driving conditions.

Also in Asker

Operations manager in the Oslo police district, Bjørn Gunnar Nysæter, says that earlier this evening they also received reports of slippery conditions in Asker.

– But we forwarded an inquiry to Asker municipality a little earlier this evening about slippery roads in the south of Asker, he says.

He encourages those going out to drive to think about the driving conditions and adjust their speed accordingly.

– It’s a scary combination of rain and freezing temperatures, which is now clearly causing sub-cooled rain in some places. So you have to drive according to the conditions, he points out.

On Tuesday morning, there may be even more cars on the roads during the morning rush hour than usual, as there is uncertainty about whether train traffic will resume as normal after major problems with the power supply on Monday afternoon and evening.
