Multiple Candidates Register for Mayor of Cartagena, Including Former Mayor Judith Pinedo and Gustavo Martínez

Before closing the registrations, several applicants formalized their candidacies for Mayor of Cartagena before the Registrar’s Office. Last Friday it was the turn of Gustavo Martínez, endorsed by the Gente en Movimiento party; and for Judith Pinedo, former mayor of the city, who presented more than 140,000 signatures collected through the significant group “Courageous for Cartagena.” In addition, she has the endorsement of the Alianza Verde party.

For his part, Martínez, a public administrator and specialist in public management and finance, who was Secretary of Finance of the Interior and former director of the District’s budget, said: “I am an olayero. A son from the bowels of the town. A simple man, prepared and with a great social sensitivity who has the best profile for the materialization of my development proposals for the city”.

In turn, Judith Pinedo indicated when delivering the various boxes with signatures: “In these boxes are the dreams, hopes and aspirations of thousands of brave Cartagena people who believe in our way of doing politics. They have put their vote of confidence in us and have opted for a free and independent candidacy”, she expressed.

Today, D-Day for registrations, the day was busier as it was the last day. Early in the morning, councilor Javier Julio Bejarano, endorsed by the Historical Pact, registered.

Also registered were Héctor Pérez, endorsed by the Colombia Justa Libres party; and Richard Martínez, backed by the Colombia Renaciente party.

Today at the headquarters of the Registrar’s Office in Cartagena there was a lot of disorder, as countless candidacies, including those for Council, Assembly and Local Administrative Boards, gathered to register at the last minute. It is said that a pre-candidate, quite active in recent weeks, who was collecting signatures to endorse her aspiration to the Mayor’s Office broke down in tears when she was unable to register.

The lawyer Alcides Arrieta, who “had” the endorsement of the Poder Progresista party, a group that, according to what they reported, has a presence in 28 departments of the country and its own lists for the Mayor’s Office and the Bogotá Council, announced late afternoon that he was the victim of a hoax, because after going through all the processes and procedures to obtain the guarantee, he was informed that Poder Progresista did not have legal status to grant guarantees.
