Multiple Bomb Threats Impact High Schools in Grenoble Metropolitan Area

High schools in the Grenoble metropolitan area were affected, this Thursday, October 5, by several bomb threats. The establishments were evacuated and closed this morning “until the doubt is resolved”, informed the Isère prefecture.

High schools in the Grenoble metropolitan area were affected this Thursday, October 5, by bomb threats. According to the Isère prefecture, eight schools have received information indicating a threat.

“In agreement with the rector, the prefect Louis Laugier decided to close them until the doubt is resolved”, indicated the prefecture on social networks. This Thursday morning, the Champollion high school, located in the city center of Grenoble, was one of these establishments.

No student was able to go to class. Police cars were parked near the high school. Cours Lafontaine was blocked near boulevards Gambetta and Agutte Sembat by law enforcement vehicles. A removal of doubt was in progress.

The high schools concerned are: the Notre-dame day school, Mounier, Eaux-Claires, Champollion, Argouges, ISER-Bordier lycée des Métiers, Stendhal, Lesdiguières. “Students are kept safeindicates the prefecture. Mine clearance teams remain on site.”

These bomb threats in schools have been increasing in the Northern Alps in recent days. Yesterday, Wednesday October 4, a bomb threat was triggered at the La Salle private college, located in the Aigle district of Grenoble. The director of the establishment was warned at 7:30 a.m. by an anonymous letter that a bomb placed in the college threatened to explode at 9 a.m.

Also this week, Tuesday October 3, an attack alert took place at Doisneau college, in L’Isle d’Abeau. Students were confined and brought to safety for approximately two hours before the alert was lifted.

At the beginning of October, a bomb threat took place at the Grand Arc high school in Albertville, before classes resumed in the afternoon. On September 18, it was the Monge high school in Chambéry which was the subject of another bomb alert. Other establishments at the national level were concerned.

This increase in cases since the start of the school year in September has worried the police. “These are complicated operations to implement in the morning and which put many personnel on alert”explained a police source this Wednesday.

Concerning the bomb threat at La Salle college, a 12-year-old child was identified by the Grenoble departmental security police. “This is a minor of only 12 years old who is keen on computers and is currently being interviewed by the police as well as his parents.informed the Grenoble public prosecutor, Eric Vaillant, this Thursday.

“In a probable imitation of this bomb threat, eight schools in the Grenoble area found a new bomb threat message concerning them this morning. The text of the message is very different from that of the day before”said the prosecutor.

The prosecution therefore once again opened an investigation. This was entrusted to the Grenoble departmental security police.
