He faces life in prison when he receives his sentence on October 18.
Durst has previously been acquitted of the murder of a neighbor and has been suspected of the murder of his wife, but is now found guilty of killing his best friend, Susan Berman, in Los Angeles in 2000.
The accusations of the multimillionaire from New York have been mentioned in several podcasts and TV series.
According to the prosecution, the murder happened because Berman wanted to tell what she showed about the disappearance of Durst’s wife, Kathie Durst, in 1982.
Denied in court
Durst denied both murders, but also said he would have lied in court if he was guilty. In 2001, he was acquitted of the murder of his neighbor in Texas.
Berman was found shot in the head in her home in December 2000. According to friends of hers, she had told that she gave Durst a false alibi after his wife disappeared.
In court, the prosecution drew a picture of a rich narcissist, who did not think the law applied to him. Despite the fact that the case only concerned the murder of Berman, the prosecution also presented evidence related to the murder of the neighbor and the disappearance of the wife.
Possible confession
Durst was arrested in 2015 at a hotel in New Orleans, where he had sought refuge while attention was again directed to his cases through an HBO documentary, “The Jinx”.
In the last episode of the documentary, he was presented with evidence against him, and then came what the prosecution believes is an admission. The microphones detected that he was talking to himself in the bathroom after seeing the evidence.
– That’s what you’re taken, you can hear Durst mumbling to himself.
Durst was born into one of America’s richest families. The family has, among other things, owned office buildings in Manhattan.
