The Sinaloa government is working with a multidisciplinary group in preparations for a large cultural and scientific program that will take place in Mazatlán – where hotel reservations are at their maximum – for the observation of the total solar eclipse on April 8, which will feature the participation of international experts, reported Ricardo Velarde, in charge of the office of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
He pointed out that the hotels register a large influx during the holiday period, and to observe the eclipse, the privileged location of Mazatlán attracted groups of specialists from the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as well as from others. countries and entities of Mexico.
José Ramón Manguart, president of the 3 Islas de Mazatlán Hotel and Motel Association, reported that hotel reservations have reached 80 percent only from visitors from Europe and Asia, made in advance.
He highlighted that the eclipse represents advantages for Mazatlán, since the visit of Asians and Europeans will allow the port to become a destination with great opportunity. That is why they must take advantage of the historical moment and provide the best. He added that guests will be offered special glasses for safe viewing of the eclipse.
In Mazatlán, the Sánchez Taboada roundabout, located in front of the sea in Olas Altas, will become an observatory for the astronomical phenomenon, which will begin at 9:55 a.m. and whose total phase will last 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
In this place, where President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will be, there will be the presence of the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of the Arts, which will perform some pieces before the phenomenon.
The Ministry of Health will distribute thousands of special glasses for observing the eclipse days before the celestial spectacle occurs.
On instructions from Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, the multidisciplinary group refines the preparations headed by Cinthia Gabriela Gutiérrez, head of the Executive Office.
The state government reported that the website eclipsesolar2024.sinaloa.gob.mx was opened, which provides information about the phenomenon.
The solar eclipse will also be observed in the towns of Villa Unión, El Quelite, La Noria and El Recodo, belonging to the municipality of Mazatlán, as well as in Aguacaliente de Gárate and Pánuco, Concordia and El Caimanero, Ojo de Agua, Escuinapa and Teacapan, Escuinapa, in Las Labradas, Dimas, Coyotitán, municipality of San Ignacio, although the duration will be shorter: 2 minutes 16 seconds.
