With the introduction of the Slash Gear on Monday (2/11), the accessibility features of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max help users with limited vision. Using a LiDAR sensor, the device can detect nearby people and even tell the user how close or far they are from people.
Thanks to the LiDAR sensor combined with Occlusiom’s ARKits People technology, one can find out a certain distance threshold and notify the user accordingly.

This accessibility feature is of course for people who have eye problems or for people who are totally blind. This capability gives them an idea of whether the person is at a certain distance via an audio or haptic indicator so that they can take appropriate action if needed.
Ultimately, this feature can also be used as a social distancing tool if a special threshold is set to notify them when people in the area fail to take appropriate precautions.
This detector is already available in the beta version of iOS 14.2 and will be available to the general public next week. As this function is derived from LiDAR, the inj function is only available for the “Pro” iPhone models, namely for the iPhone 12 Pro and the future iPhone 12 Pro Max.
