Next week, further solutions to fight the effects of inflation will be presented – government spokesman Piotr Müller said on Saturday. He explained that it was, among other things, a reduction in VAT on fuels, which would make it possible to reduce the prices of gasoline by about PLN 0.70 per liter from February 1, and that of autogas by PLN 0.40.

“Among the solutions that will be proposed, there will be a reduction in VAT on fuels from 23 to 8 percent. This means that from February 1 one could expect a reduction in gasoline prices by approximately 0.70 PLN, and autogas by approximately PLN 0.40.” said the spokesman.

He added that this was another “important element” of the Polish government’s efforts to reduce taxes, but also to fight inflation.

“It will not be the only action. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Morawiecki will indicate other measures that we plan to adopt to limit the effects of inflation,” he indicated.

According to the spokesman, the reason for inflation is gas blackmail from Russia, on the other hand, the climate policy of the European Union.

Poland will take steps to reform the trade in CO2 missions, on the other hand, to take action in solidarity with Russia as regards gas blackmail and gas prices, which Russia is currently trying to force, which is effectively manipulating energy prices in all over Europe “- emphasized Müller.

In an interview with Interia on Thursday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that if inflation trends continued, the current anti-inflation shield would be extended (including a reduction in the excise tax on fuels, resignation from the retail tax on fuel sales, and a reduction in VAT on gas).

“Now we are strengthening it with a 2.0 shield,” said Prime Minister Morawiecki. He added that the estimated annual cost of this next tax cut is PLN 6 to 7 billion.

The Central Statistical Office said on Friday in a quick estimate that the prices of consumer goods and services in December 2021 increased by 8.6 percent. yoy, and compared to the previous month, prices increased by 0.9% (PAP)
