Mullappally Ramachandran to contest if party says so; Who will lead will be announced after the election

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said that he will contest in the assembly elections if the party says so. He was responding to reports that he would contest in one of the Koyilandy and Kalpetta constituencies. He was a man who carried out everything the party said with utmost care at all times. Mullappally said that he would heed any suggestion made by the party.

Mullappally was speaking after returning from a meeting with the Congress leadership in Delhi on issues related to the Kerala Assembly elections. Mullappally said that the decision to field a candidate in the Assembly elections was not discussed.
The idea is to give prominence to newcomers and youth leaders.

Mullappally did not give a definite answer to the question whether Oommen Chandy will lead the Congress in the elections. The committee headed by Oommen Chandy has been formed as a committee to formulate election strategies. Usually there are no such committees. However, Mullappally said that he was of the view that he should win this election at any cost and that the committee was formed as part of that. He added that after the elections, it has been made clear that the All India Congress Committee will decide who will lead it.

Asked if there was any threat to the KPCC presidency in the wake of the local body election defeat, Mullappally said such questions were irrelevant. Mullappally added that Ramesh Chennithala is a talented and capable leader.
