Member of Commission VII DPR, Mulan Jameela, commented that the smelter project had stalled during a meeting with the MIND ID board of directors. MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID) is a state-owned mining industry holding company consisting of PT ANTAM Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero), and PT Timah Tbk.
Meanwhile, the smelter project that Mulan Jameela is referring to is a grade alumina smelter in Mempawah, West Kalimantan. He asked for an explanation as to why this smelter was never completed.
“Regarding the construction of Antam’s smelter grade alumina, up to now, only 15 percent of the construction has been completed, is that correct? What are the details,” said Mulan Jameela in a working meeting of Commission VII with MIND ID, Thursday (2/6/2022).
Mulan Jameela stated that the construction of the alumina grade smelter should have been completed in 2021, but until now it has stalled. According to him, this could harm MIND ID, furthermore, it could even harm the state.
“The smelter should have been completed in 2021, this is a significant loss for MIND ID,” said Mulan Jameela.
