Muktupável’s Departure from “Kultūras Rondo”: A New Chapter Begins

In a conversation with “Kas Jauns”, Muktupável describes his departure from the program “Kultūras Rondo” with a hint of humor: “I didn’t want to wait for the moment when people would say behind me: ‘When will that old fool finally leave!?'” (Laughs.) So it’s better to leave when I’ve grown up with this show so much that normal memories remain.

This is not a sudden decision, I made it slowly, slowly, studying and controlling myself. Sometimes you have to learn to leave… I have worked for so many years, now a new generation is coming.

I am sure that the young people are as good as we are, because I see what kind of energetic, smart and knowledgeable people come to our cultural editorial office. It is good that the show will get a new breath and freshness. I am convinced that there are no irreplaceable people.”

Of course, making this decision was not emotionally easy because, as Muktupāvels admits, he wanted to celebrate the centenary of Latvian Radio:

“I just felt inside that I had to quit.

I thought, I thought, I made a decision and I did it. I’ll live on!”

Until the end of the year, Muktupāvela’s work schedule is filled with music. Therefore, fans of the singer’s talent will be able to meet him in person at concerts. “Approximately 20 concerts are planned. We have two concerts with Jānis Lūsēnas, there is a whole Christmas series with the band “bet bet”. Music is and will be my main occupation,” he clarifies.

“Kultūras rondo” is a Latvian Radio 1 program about cultural processes in Latvia and the world, which also provides detailed annotations about current events in music, art, cinema, theater, literature, architecture, design, etc.
