Jakarta –
Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) supports the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy regarding the discourse on banning Indonesian citizens from worshiping haji more than once. MUI appealed to residents who have already performed Hajj to take the option of performing Umrah.
“MUI invites the public to perform the Hajj obligation only once as suggested by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy. People who want to go to the Holy Land for Hajj can choose Umrah which is a small pilgrimage, because the difference is standing, the others are the same,” said MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan when contacted , Sunday (27/8/2023).
Amirsyah hopes that this discourse can be carried out. Because, in that way, he said, other people who have not yet performed the pilgrimage can get the opportunity more quickly.
“This provides an opportunity for the Indonesian people who are currently waiting on a waiting list, such as Aceh, which is 34 years old to Bantaeng, which is 48 years old,” he said.
Furthermore, Amirsya said the pilgrimage is a long spiritual journey that requires a lot of material and physical strength. He also said the obligation to perform the pilgrimage for Muslims only once in a lifetime.
“Allah SWT says in Al-Quran Surat Al-Imran verse 97: Performing Hajj is a human obligation to God, that is for those who are able to travel to Baitullah. Whoever neglects the obligation of Hajj, then verily Allah is Most Rich (does not need anything) from the universe,” he explained.
Muhadjir Suggests One Time Hajj Discourse
Previously, Muhadjir Effendy had discussed the ban haji more than once. For this reason, Muhadjir advised people who wanted to go to the Holy Land for Hajj to choose Umrah.
“If you miss it, you can join the small pilgrimage, Umrah is a small pilgrimage. The only difference is that it’s not enough, the others are the same,” said Muhadjir at the Coordinating Ministry for PMK, Jakarta, Sunday (27/8).
Muhadjir said Umrah worship can be done at any time and there are no restrictions.
“That is, actually it has been around for a long time, the Prophet also suggested umrah, it is included in the minor pilgrimage. So if you miss it, it is umrah. If it is not limited, every month is also permissible,” he said.
Muhadjir again suggested that the pilgrimage only be done once. He also gave an example of himself never going on a pilgrimage while being a minister.
“Once in a lifetime, I think that’s enough. As long as I was a minister, thank God I never went on a pilgrimage,” he said.
