MUI Calls for Respect for Differences, Mentions Muhammadiyah After Isbat Session

Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Abdullah Jaidi offended Muhammadiyah who will carry out the first day of fasting or set 1 Ramadhan 1445 Hijriah on Monday (11/3). According to him, we must respect this decision together.

This was conveyed by Abdullah after the government’s version of 1 Ramadhan 1445 Hijriah was determined by the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag).

This determination was announced after the Ministry of Religion and a number of stakeholders held an isbat session whose results were not visible crescent moon on Sunday (10/3).

“1 Ramadhan 1445 Hijriah will fall on March 12 2024, which God willing, we will carry out together,” said Abdullah at the Ministry of Religion Office, Sunday (10/3).

“It is up to our brothers in Muhammadiyah and others who will be fasting tomorrow, let us together respect each other’s differences,” he added.

Abdullah also quoted the holy verse of the Koran, specifically Surah Hud verses 118-119 about humans who will always be in conflict.

“God stated that humans will always be in conflict. [Kemudian] The Prophet said that disagreement we are grace for us,” he said.

“That’s why we have to respect each other, respect each other. We don’t need to discuss this problem and make this problem bigger in our lives,” he added.

Apart from touching on Muhammadiyah, Abdullah also asked all Islamic Fridays to take advantage of this Ramadan moment to increase piety and social awareness.

He also asked the public to remain united after the 2024 general election process was completed.

“After this election, let us remain united. Take steps together. Build the Republic of Indonesia towards a Golden Indonesia 2045,” he concluded.
