Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Management AstraZeneca responding to the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) regarding the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
MUI argues that the law of vaccines is haram because they use the trypsin enzyme from pigs in the production process. However, MUI stated that the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine could be used for a number of reasons.
“We appreciate what is conveyed by MUI. It is important to note that AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine is a viral vector vaccine that does not contain products of animal origin,” explained AstraZeneca Indonesia in a written statement received by detik.com on Sunday (21/3/2021). .
This has been confirmed by the British Medicines and Health Products Authority.
“At all stages of the production process, this viral vector vaccine does not use and come into contact with pork or other animal products,” continued AstraZeneca.
“This vaccine has been approved in more than 70 countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco and many Islamic Councils around the world have expressed a stance that vaccines are allowed for Muslims,” he concluded.
