The Offenbach district plans to put the Mühlheim ferry on an auction portal shortly. The citizens’ initiative (BI) ferry resigned.

The Offenbach district creates a fait accompli: The Mühlheim ferry is now being auctioned. The district committee decided to post a corresponding offer on the website www.zoll-auktion.de shortly, according to a press release on Wednesday evening. The ferry is thus offered for sale on the federal auction portal. In this way, you can reach a large number of potential buyers and achieve “the best possible price” for the ferry. That would have resulted in discussions with the waterways and shipping authorities, experts from inland shipping and recyclers.

“It’s over, it’s over,” says Petra Schneider, spokeswoman for the Citizens’ Initiative (BI) ferry. Only new political majorities could revive the ferry connection between Mühlheim (Offenbach district) and Maintal (Main-Kinzig district). “Our deadline is therefore March 14, 2021, the day of the local elections.” The BI hopes that there will then be a larger majority for those parliamentary groups that have supported the ferry from the start. Most recently, at their meeting on November 9th, the majority of the Maintaler city councilors refused to shoulder the costs of continuing the ferry connection on their own in order to later secure operations with the districts and the city of Mühlheim.

Schneider speaks of “ferry sinkers” – but primarily refers to the Offenbach district. There the district council decided on June 24th to permanently suspend the ferry connection across the Main. She is annoyed that the Offenbach district never included her BI in the consultations on the ferry.
