Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana recorded a victory over Rasmus Kjaer/Frederik Sogaard in the quarter-finals of the 2023 French Open, Friday (21/10) evening.

Fikri/Bagas made a good start against the Danish pair. The world number 12 pair saved their lead from the start.

Kjaer/Sogaard tried to get up, but Fikri/Bagas were able to pull away and take an 8-4 lead before leading 11-5 at the interval.

After the break, Fikri/Bagas appeared consistent in defense and attack. The fast and neat game played by the PBSI national training pair made them both lead 18-9.

Kjaer/Sogaard had difficulty finding gaps in the Fikri/Bagas defense who closed the first game with a 21-11 win.

At the start of the second game, Fikri/Bagas faced resistance from Kjaer/Sogaard who did not want to repeat the mistakes they made in the first game.

Fikri/Bagas could take the lead, but the Danish doubles could maintain their distance and then equalize 10-10.

After leading 11-10 at the interval, Fikri/Bagas again met strong efforts from Kjaer/Sogaard in the second half of the second game.

The Indonesian and Danish pair competed with each other deftly in returning the ball. Fikri/Bagas led 14-11, but Kjaer/Sogaard were able to get three points in a row.

Fikri/Bagas’ points streak continued after Kjaer/Sogaard equalized. Fikri/Bagas’ relentless attacks made the score 18-14.

Having stopped Fikri/Bagas’ streak of points, Kjaer/Sogaard were unable to stop the pair coached by Aryono Miranat from winning. Fikri/Bagas secured their ticket to the semifinals of the French Open thanks to a 21-17 win in the second game.

Meanwhile, in another match, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati lost 22-24, 10-21 to Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin. Thus, there are no longer any Indonesian mixed doubles remaining at the 2023 French Open.
