RIYADH – One of the ministries in Saudi Arabia once led by a figure who has Indonesian ancestry. It was Muhammad Saleh Benten who was appointed Minister of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia in May 2016.

Previously, he served as President Director of the Saudi Post, or Saudi Arabia’s post office.

The name Muhammad Saleh Benten attracted the attention of the Indonesian people because of his Indonesian blood.

The man, whose full name is Muhammad Saleh bin Taher Benten, has an Indonesian lineage from his father.

His father’s mother, or grandmother Benten, is from Banten, West Java. Not surprisingly, the name Benten was pinned to him.

After obtaining bachelor’s and master’s degrees at King Fahd University in electrical engineering, Benten continued his doctoral education abroad.
