Although it has not yet been made official, something that could happen next Monday, when the second part of the 2020 calendar is expected to be announced, Mugello is close to confirming his presence on the F1 calendar.
This new grand prize would be held on September 13 and would serve as a celebration of the 1000th race of Ferrari in F1, under the name of Tuscan Grand Prix.
The facility, owned by the Cavallino brand, has received the full support of its region, with its president, Enrico Rossi, in the midst of the electoral campaign to renew his mandate.
The test would be a reality thanks to a protocol signed between the Tuscany region, the Scarperia City Council and the Florence City Council, in whose metropolitan area the Mugello Autodrome is located. All will contribute financially to cover part of the organizational cost of the ninth grand prix of the 2020 season, which will begin after the devastating pandemic of COVID-19.
However, the race would be held like the others on the calendar, behind closed doors. Ferrari has had the opportunity to roll with the SF71H at these facilities last Tuesday with its two pilots, Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, after the mandatory stop for the confinement, something that served the team to test security protocols by COVID-19, which will be launched at the Red Bull Ring, in addition to collecting track data.
The last collective F1 test at Mugello dates from 2012 and then no one has ridden with an F1, except for Ferrari customers who participate in the brand’s world finals.
This would be the first test for the highest category on the circuit that has hosted the motorcycle world championship since the 1970s, but that this year has canceled its appointment.
