Mufti of Tripoli Postpones Visit of Free Patriotic Movement Leader: Statement from Central Committee

Today, Wednesday, the Central Committee for Media and Communication of the Free Patriotic Movement issued a statement in which it said: “We were informed by His Eminence the Mufti of Tripoli and the North, Sheikh Muhammad Tariq Imam, that His Eminence had requested to postpone the date of the visit of the head of the Free Patriotic Movement to Dar al-Fatwa until three o’clock in the morning.” Tomorrow afternoon, due to his previous commitments in Beirut in preparation for the Sharia Council session in his capacity as Vice President of the Council, he also has an appointment in the Bekaa, heading a delegation from the Sharia Council to provide an emergency condolence duty.”

He added, “Therefore, His Eminence apologized for his inability to receive Minister Bassil, due to the conflict of appointments, while confirming that Dar Al-Fatwa is a national institution that brings together all citizens in Lebanon and not just members of the Sunni sect, and he hopes that conditions will be available for the meeting to take place on another date.”

He continued, “In response to this, it was decided to postpone the visit to a later time to be determined in accordance with the calendar of all religious leaders that he was going to visit in Tripoli.”

He concluded: “Any other explanation for the postponement is the creation of the imagination of some who live off rumors and problems and are trying to stir up strife and strife at a time when the movement is seeking development in the city, to bring its people together, and to have a common word among all the Lebanese.”
