Yesterday, Chinese Central Television reported that mudslides and floods in the northwestern city of Xi’an claimed the lives of two people and caused the loss of 16 others, and this came after heavy rains, floods and severe weather conditions, in the wake of Typhoon Doxuri.
A report by Chinese TV said that the floods swept away two houses in a village in Xi’an district, and infrastructure such as roads, bridges and electricity supply facilities were damaged, indicating that search and rescue teams were sent to the area.
The report stated that the Qinling Mountains in Xi’an will continue to face severe weather conditions, which will lead to soil erosion and possibly more mudslides, pointing out that the movement of some trains stopped in the capital Beijing and the northeastern city of Harbin, due to heavy rains and strong winds.
The report indicated that in Guangxi in the southwest of the country, heavy rains in the city of Nanning led to flooding, forcing commuters at rush hour to drive rickshaws and motorcycles through flooded roads, and local authorities erected barriers to allow water drainage operations on some roads. While the city has sent nearly 3,900 police officers to provide assistance.
Chinese television said that efforts are underway to heal a 90-meter-long crack in a water barrier on a river, and to protect 29 villages located at the mouth of the river in Jilin province, in the northeast of the country. The country, and caused floods caused by heavy rains to besiege some residents in their homes.
