This Thursday, July 4, around 9:15 p.m., a culture fire broke out at a place called Les Rondines in Étang-sur-Arroux. When they arrived, the firefighters noticed a flame front on 2 km of hedge. Caused by an impact of lightning, the fire quickly spread in a field. An area of 4,000 m² was burned.
Under the command of Lieutenant Loïc Huguenin, 18 firefighters and 6 vehicles fought the fire. Their main mission was to limit the spread and protect a nearby dwelling house. The operation was complicated by a swirling wind in the area and the presence of a power line just above. Some homes were without electricity. Enedis moved on site to restore the lines.
The resources involved came from Étang-sur-Arroux, Autun and Le Creusot. In view of the area concerned, Lieutenant Huguenin called on Lieutenant François Longobucco, FDF3 technical adviser. The lieutenant wishes to salute “the bulk of the work was done by local farmers and residents who did not hesitate to come up with their own means”. The mayor of the town was present on site as well as the gendarmerie to regulate traffic.
