Much of Fraser Island – the largest sand island in the world – was destroyed by forest fires

Nature on the island is unique. It is the only place in the world where tropical rainforest grows higher than 200 meters above sea level on sand dunes. In addition to rainforests, there are also mangrove forests, eucalyptus forests and many dunes. The wildfires are also bad news for the unique community of dingoes, wild dogs, that live there.
