Much more powerful than the atomic bomb: It’s getting closer to Earth

A very large asteroid is preparing to pass near Earth.

According to the Jerusalem Post (JP), experts think that if it hits, the asteroid will cause much greater destruction than the atomic bomb. However, it is estimated that the asteroid 2018 AH will pass 4.5 million kilometers away. Therefore, no collision is expected.

2018 AH is still on the list of Apollo asteroids. The asteroids on this list intersect with Earth and pose a collision hazard.

The meteorite in question had traveled 296,758 kilometers from Earth three years ago. At that time, scientists did not see the arrival of the asteroid due to its dimness.

In JP’s report, he wrote that the possible collision of 2018 AH could be similar to the asteroid impact known as the Tunguska Event.

In the event that took place in the Siberia region of Russia in 1908, an asteroid 50 to 190 meters in size exploded about 5 to 24 kilometers above the Earth’s surface.

It is thought that roughly 3-30 megatons of energy was released after the event. This is equivalent to 185 times the impact of the atomic bomb the US dropped on Hiroshima, Japan in World War II.

On the other hand, after 27 December, an asteroid is not expected to approach Earth until 2028. At this date, it is thought that the 2001 WN5, which is approximately 1 kilometer long, will pass at a distance of 248 thousand kilometers.
