The first opportunity was created by Manchester United. In the sixth minute, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross for Marcus Rashford was followed up with a kick. The ground ball landed in the path of Tyrell Malacia, then carried on with a shot despite being saved by Wayne Hennesey.
MU’s deadlock was finally broken in the 19th minute. MU successfully beat Nottingham Forest 1-0. Coming from a corner kick, Christian Eriksen sent in a hull ball which was caught by Marcus Rashford with a strike from the center of the penalty area.
It took MU just four minutes to make the score 2-0. It was Anthony Martial’s turn to engrave his name on the board.
Rashford ended the quick counter-attack scheme with a low cross from the left wing. Martial finished with a left footed shot, which caught Wayne Hennesey before hitting the Nottingham Forest goal.
In the 41st minute, Forest scored a goal after Ryan Yates’ header fell to the ground and then slotted into the MU goal. However, the goal was disallowed as the ball hit the boot of Boly, who was in an offside position after a VAR check.
After the break, MU squandered a golden opportunity to set up a third goal. Rashford’s pass to Bruno Fernandes has been passed to Antony. However, Antony’s finish was thwarted by Hennesey.
Hennesey made another brilliant save after stopping Rashford’s shot, which was aimed at the near post.
The third goal MU was looking for finally got in the last four minutes. Fred changed the score to 3-0 Nottingham Forest.
The Nottingham Forest defense had a clear finish, Casemiro won the ball in midfield and then sent a through ball to Fred. The last named player ends up with a left footed shot into the top corner of the goal.
