Manchester United will face Barcelona in play-off Europa League knockout stage. Barca will first host the Red Devils in the first leg at Camp Nou, Friday (17/2/2023). MU then changed to host Old Trafford Stadium in the second leg (24/2).
The Red Devils had to go through the play-offs because they were only able to finish as runners-up in the group stage, losing to Real Sociedad in Group E. Meanwhile, Barcelona were thrown into the Europa League due to being able to only finish third in Group C in the Champions League.
MU has updated its squad that competed in the Europa League ahead of the match against Barcelona. Their three new January transfer signings Wout Weghorst, Marcel Sabitzer and Jack Butland have all been signed up.
all three came to MU on loan. Weghorst is on loan from Burnley. Sabitzer has joined from Bayern Munich. Butland came from Crystal Palace.
Axel Tuanzebe, Martin Dubravka and Cristiano Ronaldo are no longer in the Red Manchester squad. Tuanzebe was loaned to Stoke City, Dubravka returned to Newcastle United, while Ronaldo, after breaking his contract, is now playing for Al Nassr.
Brando Williams and Phil Jones, who are currently still MU players, were also not registered. Both did not get minutes to play this season.
Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek, who has a knee injury and is in danger of being sidelined until the end of the season, is in the squad. Apart from that, there are no more surprises from the choice of MU manager, Erik ten Hag.
