MU is about to bid farewell to 13 stars because of FFP

(PLO) – Coach Erik ten Hag plans to clean up the squad this summer at Manchester United with 13 players set to leave.

That is the headline shared in the Mirror (UK) today 11-4. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is planning a rebuild to help his side challenge the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City for next season’s Premier League title.

The Dutchman is considering getting rid of 13 players this summer, as his Old Trafford revolution picks up pace. Coach Ten Hag was appointed by MU a year ago and is enjoying a very favorable first season. The “Red Devils” are aiming to reach the Top 4 in the Premier League.

MU also won the Carabao Cup, the first title in 6 years and is still in the race to win the Europa League and FA Cup. Even so, United still have a long way to go to challenge for the Premier League title.

The humiliating defeats to Brentford, Manchester City and Liverpool are painful reminders that Ten Hag and his staff at Old Trafford still have a lot of work to do.

As such, the Dutch strategist is clearly planning this summer. Information from the Daily Mail (UK) said that some MU players have to leave Old Trafford this summer. The reason is because MU needs to remove some stars to comply with financial fair play (FFP). This number up to 13 players.

There are dozens of clubs interested in signing Anthony Elanga, while Eric Bailly is said to not return to Old Trafford after his loan spell at Marseille ends. However, French football giants Marseille are not interested in signing Bailly on a long-term basis.

It is unclear if Elanga will leave Old Trafford forever. The Sweden international had a breakthrough season under Ralf Rangnick a year ago but has struggled to have the same impact under Ten Hag. Elanga failed to score in 24 appearances this season.

Alex Telles is another player who is unlikely to return to Manchester when his loan spell from Sevilla ends, while there are big question marks over the futures of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams and Anthony Martial.

MU captain Maguire has only backed up central defenders Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez this season and may have to accept a secondary role if he wants to stay at Old Trafford. Wan-Bissaka is also having difficulty surpassing Diogo Dalot at right-back.

Van de Beek failed to flourish under Ten Hag, who coached him at Ajax. With a knee injury, the Dutchman from Ten Hag will be out for the rest of the season. Williams has only played five minutes for United’s first team since Ten Hag arrived from Amsterdam almost a year ago.

Martial has struggled due to injury and fitness this season, making MU often dependent on loan contract Wout Weghorst on attack. Ten Hag’s priority is to sign a striker to replace Martial, but he is also pursuing a midfielder, a centre-back, a right-back and a goalkeeper.

It is worth noting that MU has appointed Matt Hargreaves from Adidas to lead the transfer negotiations in the summer. Matt Hargreaves is targeting Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who is believed to be a transfer target for MU. The former Celtic star is 22 years old this year.

Facundo Pellistri is another player who is expected to leave Old Trafford, but only on loan to gain more experience. Amad has impressed on loan at Sunderland this season, scoring 11 times in the Championship and could be awarded a starting place in United’s first team next season. Finally, Phil Jones will officially say goodbye to the “red devils” after his contract expires at the end of this season.
