MTC will support the Port System bill presented by Congress that will promote the development of ports

The head of the MTC urged legislators to approve the amendment to the aforementioned law so that it can be debated in plenary soon.

The Minister of Transportation and Communications, Raúl Pérez-Reyes Espejo, announced that his portfolio will support the bill that modifies articles 10 and 11 of Law 27943, of the National Port System, presented by said working group, which would allow promoting the development, modernization and competitiveness of the country’s ports.

Likewise, he pointed out that this rule would also mean that the investment proposals and master plans presented by the private sector include interventions outside the concession area, which provide improvements in port connectivity and competitiveness.

“The proposal is in accordance with the guidelines of the National Port Policy. This modification would allow the growth of the port system in an articulated way, with an impact on competitiveness, improvement in connectivity and would generate more jobs,” said Pérez-Reyes.

The minister at another time explained that investment plans may include interventions outside the concession area that provide improvements in port connectivity and increase logistics competitiveness.

Among the main benefits is also the greater investment in port infrastructure. That is, by offering the same conditions to public and private ports, investment in both sectors is encouraged. As well as improving the efficiency and competitiveness of ports and improving connectivity and trade.
