The millions of New Yorkers who use mass transit already have a new tool to reach their destinations.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, MTA, launched its new service alert system on Monday.
Called the MTA Real Time Alert System, it serves to provide customers with timely and personalized real-time updates on train, subway or bus service, including delays, diversions and cancellations.
“Introducing: MTA Service Alerts 🚨
“It’s our newly revamped text and email service for planned and real-time service alerts on the subway, bus, LIRR and Metro-North 📲
“Sign up to receive alerts about service changes that affect your route now: “, writes the MTA in a message on social networks about the new alert service.

These alerts are added to others already existing since 2007 about the operation of elevators and escalators in stations and also the alerts for bridges and tunnels from the MTA.
Those interested must first create an account to receive alerts, which can be customized so that users decide when and how to receive service updates.
They can also choose the day of the week and time periods to receive alerts, and whether they want to receive messages by SMS or email.
To sign up for the MTA’s new service alert system, send the message ALERT to the number 511-682. You can also do it through the website NEW.MTA.INFO
