MTA Employees Return $30,000 Cash to Subway Passenger: Heartwarming Holiday Season Story

A subway passenger on Long Island who left a bag containing $30,000 US ($40,000 Canadian) in a car while leaving was able to get his hands on this sum thanks to employees of the New York transportation company (MTA).

During the holiday season last year, assistant conductor Christopher Nocito discovered the bag full of cash while he was walking on the subway train, ABC7 reports.

“I was told it contained $30,000 (American), but I didn’t count it,” he said.

He then shared his discovery with MTA Police Officer Kristin Riker, who was able to trace the individual using a receipt in the bag.

“I saw that this person had an appointment to have their vehicle inspected, so I contacted the mechanic and asked if he could help me identify this person,” says the detective.

The bag containing the money was therefore able to be sent to its owner thanks to the vigilance of MTA employees.
