“Our transit and bus system is cleaner and safer than it has ever been in history, since we clean and disinfect throughout the day, “said the MTA President Patrick Foye criticizing the federal recommendation to use private transportation to avoid new infections.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) released the statement yesterday, rejecting guidance from the Federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that invited workers to drive their cars instead of taking public transportation.

“The latest CDC guide marks another confusing recommendation of the highest health authority in the nation. Encouraging people, especially people without cars and in congested areas like New York, not to take public transportation is a mistake, ” congestion, expenses and pollution that would be generated on the asphalt.

His comment coincided with Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement yesterday that the reopening of NYC, the only one of the state’s 10 commercial zones still quarantined since March 22, could begin on June 8.

But the same Cuomo was doubtful on that subject. He said that the 400 thousand workers who are expected to return to work that day they would have to decide for themselves how to move to their places of employment.

“It’s up to you,” the governor said of the public and private transportation options. He added that the trains are safe, without explaining how to prevent overcrowding.

“I don’t know if you can do strict social distancing on the buses or the Metro … you have to wear a mask,” he said.

“The CDC clearly intends to encourage a traffic situation in urban areas,” said an anonymous official with irony. New York Post. “His orientation may be fine in Nebraska, but in New York, good luck so employees can work ”without using public transportation.

The CDC guide also asked employers stagger work hours so that not everyone has the same schedule, a call that Foye did echo yesterday in an open letter to the city’s business owners.

In the letter, Foye also asked companies to expand the home work options, as it has been since March.

MTA includes not only the NYC Subway, but also the public buses and suburban trains LIRR and Metro North.

The head of the MTA I had previously criticized the CDC, for recommending not wearing masks at the start of the pandemic, as they changed in mid-April.

As of May 6, the NYC Subway has an unprecedented four-hour closure every night for a deep cleanup and eviction of homeless people. How long the measure will last has not been stated.
