MTA Announces Transit System Changes Over 4th of July Holiday Weekend – NBC New York

New Yorkers using MTA transportation over the 4th of July holiday weekend should anticipate some changes in service, as well as delays and cancellations.

La MTA announced on Wednesday changes for the upcoming Independence Day weekend.

The agency said that the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and Staten Island Railway will add additional trains during the afternoon of Friday, July 1 for residents who plan to travel before the holiday.

On Independence Day, Monday, July 4, New York City Transit, LIRR, and Metro-North Railroad will operate on a weekend/Saturday schedule.

The MTA highlighted other significant changes to subway, bus and rail service over the holiday weekend.

SUBWAY

  • There will be changes to subway service from Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4 due to track and signal improvements.
  • Brooklyn-bound A and C trains will operate via the F Line between West 4th Street-Washington Square in Manhattan and Jay Street-MetroTech in Brooklyn due to track work in the A Line tunnel.
  • There will be no D service in the Bronx between 161st and 205th Streets due to structural work on the Concourse Line tunnel. Users should take parallel line 4 instead.
  • Due to track work, the G line will operate in two sections between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand avenues and between Bedford-Nostrand and Hoyt-Schermerhorn avenues. This work will end at 3 pm on Monday, July 4.
  • Due to the installation of the track panel, Manhattan-bound J trains will skip stations between Broadway Junction and Myrtle Avenue/Broadway. Jamaica-bound J trains will terminate at 121st Street with additional service provided by shuttle buses between 121st Street and the E train at Jamaica/Van Wyck.
  • Manhattan-bound N trains will operate via the D Line between Coney Island and 36th Street/4th Avenue due to track maintenance.
  • Extra service will operate on the 42nd Street S and Line 7 after the fireworks show on Monday, July 4.

AUTOBUSES

  • New York City buses will run on a Saturday schedule on Monday, July 4.

LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD

  • Friday, July 1: The LIRR will operate an additional ten trains in the afternoon to accommodate customers leaving early for the holiday weekend. There are no track works scheduled for this weekend.
  • Saturday, July 2: The LIRR will run on a normal Saturday schedule.
  • Sunday, July 3: The LIRR will run on a Saturday schedule. Additional service returning from the Hamptons and Montauk will not be available on Sunday. Instead, it will run on Monday, July 4.
  • Monday, July 4: The LIRR will operate on a Sunday schedule with additional service returning from the Hamptons and Montauk.
  • Tuesday, July 5: Train 2705 will be available and will depart Montauk at 7:28am

METRO-NORTH

  • Friday, July 1: Metro-North will add ten additional afternoon trains on its East of Hudson and West of Hudson lines to accommodate early-departure riders for the holiday weekend. However, some trains between 5:25 pm and 6:15 pm will be cancelled. For more information, check the Metro-North TrainTime app before you travel or visit new.mta.info.
  • Saturday, July 2: Metro-North will operate on a normal Saturday schedule.
  • Sunday, July 3: Metro-North will operate on a normal Sunday schedule.
  • Monday, July 4: Metro-North will operate on a Sunday schedule, with two additional trains on the New Haven Line and one additional train on the Port Jervis Line.
