MTA Announces Congestion Pricing for Manhattan South of 60th Street Starting June 30

The MTA announced Friday that drivers will begin paying a fare to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street starting June 30.

The long awaited dense pricing model that will make history in the country will start in the city at 12:01 am on the last Sunday in June.

The date is two weeks later than the transfer agency had originally planned.

THEY MUST BE:

The congestion charge will depend on the “type of vehicle, time of day, whether any transit credit applies, and the method of payment,” the MTA said.

“Update on our congestion pricing program: Tolls will begin at midnight on June 30, 2024.

“Low income discounts, along with disability and other exemptions, are available for eligible drivers and vehicles. Applications for them are now open,” the MTA wrote in a message on social media.

The E-ZPass closing fee for non-commercial drivers is $15.

If drivers enter the city through the Holland and Lincoln tunnels, regardless of E-ZPass use, they will receive a $5 toll credit.

For those who do not have an E-ZPass, the cost to drive to the Central Business District is $22.50. On jam warning days, the MTA may apply a 25% surcharge.

The fee will be waived for taxis, but drivers will be charged an additional $1.25 per trip.

The same policy applies to Uber, Lyft and other rideshare drivers, although their tip is $2.50.
