The 2023/2024 season could hardly have started worse for MSV Duisburg. Just one point from two games, including two seriously injured players. Another entry is to follow.
MSV Duisburg will have to do without his wingers Niklas Kölle and Thomas Pledl for a few months. Both attacking players suffered shoulder injuries – Kölle in Freiburg II (1-1), Pledl against 1860 Munich (0-3) – and will be out for a long time. They will be unavailable to MSV for weeks, if not months.
As “Sky” now reports, the people of Duisburg now want to add more staff. The object of desire: Tim Köther from 1. FC Heidenheim. The winger is not used in the Bundesliga promoted team and could gain match practice with the third division team.
The 22-year-old winger only played one game in Heidenheim’s promotion season and was not on the pitch for FCH on the first day of the first Bundesliga season. But Köther still has a contract in Heidenheim until the summer of 2025, so that if he moves to Duisburg, only a loan deal would be an option.
Köther moved from Fortuna Düsseldorf to Heidenheim in the summer of 2022. He only played one game for the Fortuna pros and was in the regional league reserve of the NRW state capitals – and very successfully.
Nimble and good at dribbling, that’s how Köther acted in the 4th league and can show strong figures: 53 games, seven goals and 14 assists. Not only Heidenheim, but also many other second division clubs were on Köther in the summer of 2022. But after a messed-up season without competition practice, going to the 3rd league to MSV Duisburg should do him good. According to “Sky”, Duisburg and Heidenheim should already be in agreement, now only Köther has to decide whether he wants to switch from a Bundesliga to a third division squad.
MSV Duisburg plays at Hallesches FC on Tuesday evening (22 August, 7 p.m., RevierSport live ticker). Torsten Ziegner’s team is aiming for their first win of the season, still without Tim Köther.
