MSP updated issuance of the COVID-19 vaccination certificate – Ministry of Public Health

Quito, January 31, 2022.

From this Monday, January 31, 2022, the COVID-19 vaccination certificate will be displayed in a reduced version and with the most visible QR code. This will allow information about a citizen’s vaccination to be read on any device.

The new version allows the complete download of the certificate (full names, date of birth and inoculation against the disease, number of doses, provider, batch, vaccination point, vaccinating personnel, among others). Likewise, the person will be able to save or print the QR code – as an image – on the cell phone so that it can be read from other mobile devices.

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) enabled this practical and dynamic design for the proof of immunization with the biological and to avoid the falsification of information. This decision was made after complaints of the sale of false cards. Given this, the portfolio requested the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate these cases.

The MSP authorities remind that in addition to the legal issue there is a negative impact on the person who was not vaccinated. The minister of the branch, Ximena Garzón, pointed out that not getting vaccinated means denying the protection shield that the COVID-19 vaccine provides to the inhabitants.

“It prevents them from getting seriously ill, needing assistance and care in an Intensive Care room (ICU). To date, it is recorded in the country that people in the ICU were infected with Delta and were not vaccinated”, stressed the head of Health.

Physical cards are valid; however, it is recommended to use the QR code format. To request the document you must enter the link https://certificados-vacunas.msp.gob.ec/
