The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) reported that 700,000 doses of influenza vaccines will arrive in the country in the coming days and the schedule to be followed was detailed at a press conference, which will be without a prior agenda.

However, the portfolio’s director of Immunizations, Gabriel Peluffo, explained that a priority scheme will be followed.

The first week will be called to vaccinate older adults, health personnel and pregnant women.

“You are going to go to certain specific places where there is a population at higher risk, such as long-stay facilities for the elderly (ELEPEM),” said Peluffo.

Subsequently, for the second week, vaccination will be prioritized for children, adolescents and adults with comorbidities, and also for children between 6 months and five years of age.

Along these lines, Peluffo added that after advancing in the targeting of these sectors, for the third week the general population will be convened.

“It is to order. In reality, what the national covid vaccination plan left as a positive event is a different way of operating vaccination centers where there is protection for people and also for health workers. What we want is that there are no people accumulated on a rainy day like today”, explained Peluffo about the determination of priorities.

The hierarch also added that in the case of children they have prioritized updating the certificate card of traditional vaccines and clarified that in case the vaccine against covid-19 and influenza coincide, a separation of 14 days is recommended between each dose.

Asked about the possibility of a fourth dose of the covid vaccine in the population over 18 years of age, Peluffo said that what was determined is the recommendation to give it to people over 70 years of age and over 50 years of age with comorbidities.

“There were no changes to those recommendations. We know that there are people who are demanding more doses, but the recommendations are those that the MSP gave so far. The vaccination process against covid has been dynamic, it has been changing. If for now things do not change, it is because there is no evidence to change them”, said Peluffo.
