The people of Žilina started the match with a great desire to break the negative streak, as they last defeated Podbrezová in 2019. They started to fulfill this goal in the beginning, when Minárik opened the score of the match in the 12th minute. In the added time of the first half, Ludh’s unsuccessful kick was cleared into the net by captain Minárik with the second goal. The guests reduced the lead in the 70th minute, Assinor found Galčík from the left side and it was 2:1. However, the visitors’ excellent performance in the second half was not enough for the points.

Jaroslav Hynek, coach of MŠK Žilina: “We had no idea that Podbrezová had a problem with the lineup, which we only found out from the minutes. We were expecting a tactical and pressing battle. Podbrezová has better and better experienced certain rotations, which we let ourselves be caught in. Our tactical intention was to speed up the game for defense after a gain ball and from that we scored two goals and a third that was not recognized. So the first half was clearly ours. In the second half we could have closed the match earlier, but we were impatient and inaccurate in the end. Podbrezová played actively, as we know her, but she didn’t have many chances, because we were ready defensively and blocked a lot of shots. I’m glad we managed the match, even though Podbrezová dramatized it with a goal.”
Roman Skuhravý, coach of Podbrezová: “I evaluate the match positively, of course, I take the first half on myself. During the week, our line-up fell apart, we had a problem putting it together, and obviously I didn’t fit into the line-up. In the first half, the opponent gave us problems, especially Gidi and Leitner, then the home team were outnumbered and we deservedly lost the first half because we lacked a second in reaction. In the second half we regrouped, we had nothing to lose. It was an interesting half for me, we were attacking well, but we lack confidence. Today Žilina she deservedly won and I congratulate her on that.”
